Quora released its blogging platform today. I created this blog fifteen minutes ago. It remains to be seen how the community aspect of Quora works. Arguably, it is the strongest advantage this platform has over other blogging platforms.
I think this platform will work well for non-power users. Two reasons I won't be switching over just yet:
- No option for preformatted text. Let's face it, a lot of Quora users are programmers. A lot of what we talk about involves code. Syntax highlighting would be a nice to have, but I would even settle for a monospaced font.
- No API to access blog content externally. Posterous, Wordpress, and Tumblr all have this, making it possible for me to display my blog content on my personal site. Again, this is a power-user feature, but it's one that's important to me. For something which requires as big of a time investment as a blog, I'd like an easy way to extract the data that I put into the blog.
Overall, though, I'm excited to discover even more interesting content on Quora Blogs.
